Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art
The Serralves Foundation is one of the main Portuguese cultural institutions and the most important of the city of Porto and in the North of Portugal. It is best known for its Museum of Contemporary Art, designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira, but it also has a leafy and very interesting 18-hectare park, a nice Tea House, the gardens designed by Jacques Gréber and the Casa de Serralves, a unique example of Art Deco, both from the 1930s. All of these architectural and landscape landmarks were classified as a National Monument in 2012. There is also a shop and a restaurant. The festival “Serralves em Festa!” takes place in late May and early June every year. It is a free event with programing that includes 40 consecutive hours of music, dance, theater, performance, and contemporary circus, and is already one of the biggest cultural events in the city.
