Church of São Bento da Vitória
Inaugurated in 1707, the Church of S. Bento da Vitória is a monumental building with spacious and sumptuous interiors. It was built in a Classical style influenced by Counter-Reformation tastes. The wood panels and the gilt wood carvings that fill the interior are particularly noteworthy. The choir stalls feature carved narrative panels depicting scenes in the life of St. Bento, which are one of the most remarkable in the country. The eighteenth century organ of the church is another notable feature. It was carefully restored in 2001 and is considered one of the most outstanding examples of Portuguese organs.
