Marta Ortigão Sampaio House Museum
The latter, housed in a 1950s building is the result of a donation made by Marta Ortigão Sampaio, daughter of Vasco Ortigão Sampaio, an engineer, collector and patron, to the City Council of Porto in 1978. The also niece, from the mother's side, to painters Aurelia de Souza and Sofia de Souza, donated important collections of paintings, jewellery, furniture and other decorative arts, to the municipality allowing for the opening to the public in 1996, of a museum space that evokes the bourgeois atmosphere of the first half of the twentieth century. One should pay particular attention to the naturalism works of the collection of painting and to the jewellery sets, of the end of the seventeenth to the twentieth century - some are classical pieces, others are examples of the best folk tradition.
