Luz Beach
This small area of sand sheltered between massive rocks owes its name to the nearby Rua Senhora da Luz, where there was once was a chapel dedicated to the Mother of God, known as Our Lady of the Light, and to the fact that a lighthouse and a fort were built in Monte da Luz, with views that stretch from the Douro sandbar to Espinho. It has been awarded a Blue Flag and a Gold Beach award. If you pay attention during low tide, you will see two pontoons on the water that served as a guides to bathers in the nineteenth century. A bar-restaurant named after the beach features a pleasant terrace full of special recesses.
