Old English club
This typical bourgeois house with sunny characteristics faces west and offers wide views over the Douro River. During its history, it housed families of merchants of the city, the Congregation of St. Bernard, and the Porto English Club. The house’s terrace is supported by one of the towers of the old Fernandina Wall. At 15 meters high, this tower is a precious relic of the fourteenth century wall, and is visible from the Escadas do Caminho Novo. The building currently belongs to the Portuguese State, hosting the Order of Malta, a social and charitable organization.
